Welcome to my website! My name is Scott Bennett, and I am the sound technician for a local cover band. Although we have only had three gigs so far, I have been obsessively learning over the past few months about all sorts of things, including loudspeakers, microphones, mixing, stage plots, and lighting.
There are so many resources available, from books and websites to YouTube videos. Learning all I need to know to ensure that I am collecting, mixing, and amplifying good sound has been challenging.
Many others have already established themselves in this field and are willing to share their knowledge and experience. I am sincerely grateful to those folks, but also somewhat frustrated (not at anyone in particular). So many practitioners have so many opinions on how to do this or that, which frequencies to boost or cut, or why to choose this microphone over another. I often think I have a thing figured out only to watch another video or find another resource that says I could improve by some other method. I wonder if the term, “analysis paralysis” could be applied here.
Anyway, my intent here is to document my learning, share my experiences, and perhaps help some others along. I am open to advice or constructive criticism, and of course, questions – I enjoy doing research and learning new things to share. There are few things more rewarding than gaining knowledge and sharing it with others.
